Today at the Tasting Room, Benjamin Saltzman tastes the 2006 Pierre Usseglio Chateauneuf du Pape. In case you are wondering why I say there are 15 varietals allowed in Chateauneuf du Pape instead of the famous 13, it is important to note that there are technically 15 varietals if you count the red and white varieties of Grenache and Picpoul separately. The 15 varietals are: (Reds) Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah, Cinsault, Vaccarèse, Counoise, Muscardin, Terret Noir, Picpoul Noir, (Whites) Grenache Blanc, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Roussanne, Picopoul and Picardin.
