Wine review week-ending 7/11

Hola Argentina! Vino Boy & Captain Reality decided on a little trip to the southern hemisphere to check out some truly great deals.

Our first gem is the 2005 Graffigna Malbec. Wow! Talk about getting your money’s worth! Great cherry and tobacco with a hint of plum, good tannins and depth as well mark this beauty. Vino Boy was impressed with this wine's ability to pair with red meats, especially when grilled. It’s too powerful for fish or chicken unless accompanied by a hearty tomato sauce. It would do very well with stronger tasting cheeses. Vino Boy & Captain Reality searched for a reason not to score this through the roof, but at its price point he finally gave in and rated this wine ten poopy diapers out of ten!

Our second delight was the 2007 Santa Julia Organica Torrontes. This wine is best served with a pretty good chill on the bottle. Vino Boy found that as it warmed, the flavor profiles did not flow smoothly from one to another as it did when first opened from our super-hero refrigeration system. It’s a great crisp wine with strong peach and apricot flavors with some butter and oak to give it some depth. Pair this with fish and any chicken dish not in a tomato sauce. Vino Boy thinks it would work with raw shellfish, but some might find it a bit over-powering. White cheese of most types will compliment this wine nicely. Vino Boy was also delighted to discover that not only is this wine organic, but bio-dynamic as well and so rates it eight poopy diapers out of ten.

There are this week’s wines! So raise your glass (or sippy cup) high and salute Captain Reality’s & Vino Boy’s search for Truth, Justice and a decent glass of wine! By Mark Crabtree
