Guide to the Outdoor Amphitheaters of Los Angeles: Part II- The Greek
If I may, I want to make clear I’m not posting about the venues in any particular order, other than I have dates scheduled to attend said venues. I much prefer the second venue highlighted in my series: The Greek Amphitheatre.
Great things about the Greek:
- Any seats are good seats. And great seats are somewhat affordable. From section A to C, you really don’t have that much distance between you and the stage. The Greeks seating layout is longer, and not nearly as high as the bowl, which gives a great view from any section, even the benches.
- Ambiance. The Greek is in a gorgeous setting in Griffith Park, surrounded by lit trees so it always looks like the beginning of autumn, and there’s ample grass to picnic or play on before hand.
- And like the bowl, the sound is supreme.
- French Fries. They have the best fries, seasoned a bit and not too thick, so they don't get mushy.
- Beer and wine selections are pretty good. Not as expensive as the Bowl. Plus they have slushy margarita's. A tasty treat indeed.
- Bathrooms are nice and big. I’ve never waited in line believe it or not!
- Employees at the Greek are friendly and knowledgeable, contrary to the Bowl, where it seems like the turnover there is high and or most are volunteering to see the shows for free.
Not so great things about the Greek:
- No outside food or drinks.
I just saw Erykah Badu and the Roots perform last night, and last week I was there for A Prairie Home Companion. Both shows were phenomenal in their own right, and being that the Greek is my favorite outdoor venue, I really enjoyed myself. I had great company at both shows, and it’s always nice to share great time, like at these shows, with good friends.
Get ready for Guide to the Outdoor Amphitheaters of Los Angeles: Part III – The Verizon Amphitheater (aka Irvine Meadows).
Cheers and happy Friday!
