Continuation of Re-capped & Re-corked: JDate & Beyond
After the night in the valley, I didn’t think I would make Sunday night into a big one, however, the JDate party was such a great afternoon that I couldn’t tear myself from the scene and ended up going on a little adventure…
I arrived at the Luxe Hotel, just off Sunset Blvd at about two-thirty that afternoon. The first thought I had- “Hot!”- to the degree that I thought my black flowery dress was about to melt into my skin. I immediately looked at the pool and wished I had brought my bikini; maybe next time! Met up with JP and began to set up the Deep Canyon Cellars booth that I was there to pour. I reunited with a few friends in the biz and made some new friends too. There were several vendors there, including: La Fenetre, Ferrari Carano, Plata, Grgich Hills, Marimar, Walter Hansel, and Trefethen.
Once we had ice we were all set to pour, and the guests started arriving right on time. I saw several people that were at the last event we hosted with JDate at the Sports Club LA last month, and there were many new faces as well! Lots of good- looking people, with a strong desire to drink! I think the heat had something to do with it… Whites were the popular pour, mostly Chardonnay and Sauvignon and Fume Blanc. Any reds that I poured were kept on ice as well. **Tip** When you want to enjoy a glass of red on a hot summer day, it is quite all right to chill it down!
Here is what I tasted when I wasn’t pouring: Deep Canyon Chardonnay, Deep Canyon Rose, Ferrari Carano Fume Blanc, Walter Hansel Sauvignon Blanc, and Plata Rose of Syrah. People started fizzling out of the event around six-thirty, but I had made some friends, a posse of artists and business people of all kind, who invited me to stay for a pitcher of Margaritas; how could I decline?
Norm Maxwell of Norm Maxwell Media is an artist among the group I met, and his gallery is located really close to Wally’s. There are several upcoming events at the gallery that should not be missed! Norm and I were talking about possibly having my band play at a gallery event, and many other ideas came up. I’m sure some exciting collaborations will ensue.
Two other friends I made that evening (let’s call them K and H), happened to be vacationing in town, however they live here too! How fun is that? I am going to start vacationing in town on my weekends, checking out new hotels and hot spots as a tourist. K and H were telling me that they were staying at the Custom Hotel, which is just up the street from my place, so it made sense for us to party together that night.
We left the Luxe and went to the Custom. The décor is crazy, having all these little intricacies that give the hotel such a quirky, otherworldly feel. We relaxed for a minute, deided we were hungry and left for Swingers before hitting up Zanzibar. It was another cool coincidence that K and H were already planning on going to Zanzibar!
Zanzibar, a sister to Temple Bar (also in Santa Monica) and Little Temple (in Silverlake), is super chill, with a tribal Middle Eastern/Asian/ Islander lounge vibe and always supplying great music (live and electronic). Unfortunately, the drinks cost an arm and a first born child, so I didn’t stay long. Got a few dances in with some really good dancers, then we hopped out and headed back to the Custom, where I retrieved my ride and was in bed six blocks later…
